Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions about heat pumps, our control platform, service, and energy savings.

1 About Heat Pumps

What is COP and why does it matter?

COP (Coefficient of Performance) is an efficiency metric showing how much heat energy is produced from 1 kWh of electricity. For example, a COP of 4 means you get 4 kWh of heat from 1 kWh of electricity. The higher the COP, the lower your heating bills. The Termalis platform continuously optimizes heat pump operation to achieve the highest possible COP.

What's the difference between ground-source and air-to-water heat pumps?

Ground-source (geothermal) heat pumps extract heat from the ground through vertical or horizontal collectors. They offer stable efficiency year-round but require higher initial investment. Air-to-water heat pumps extract heat from outdoor air — they're cheaper to install but efficiency slightly decreases at very low outdoor temperatures. Both types are economical and eco-friendly compared to traditional heating methods.

Can a heat pump both heat and cool?

Yes. Most modern heat pumps can operate in reverse mode — heating in winter, cooling in summer. Geothermal pumps have an added advantage — passive cooling, which costs practically nothing as heat is simply returned to the ground. The Termalis system automatically regulates cooling through underfloor heating and fan coils, ensuring condensation prevention.

What is the lifespan of a heat pump?

A properly maintained heat pump lasts 15–25 years. The compressor — the main and most expensive component — typically operates for 10–15 years. Regular service and optimal operation can significantly extend equipment lifespan and maintain high efficiency.

2 Termalis Control Platform

What is the Termalis control platform?

It's our proprietary AI control system that connects to your heat pump and automatically optimizes its operation. The platform monitors temperatures, pressures, and other parameters in real time, integrates Nord Pool electricity prices, solar panel generation, and automatically adjusts heating/cooling modes for maximum efficiency and minimum costs.

How does Nord Pool integration work?

The Termalis platform automatically tracks hourly electricity prices on the Nord Pool exchange. When electricity is cheaper (e.g., at night), the system heats more intensively and stores heat. When electricity is more expensive, the system conserves and uses stored heat. Everything happens automatically — you don't need to do anything. This saves up to 30% on heating costs.

Is the platform compatible with my heat pump?

The Termalis platform is designed to work with most manufacturers' heat pumps — Bosch, Panasonic, Samsung, Viessmann, Vaillant, Nibe, Stiebel Eltron, CTC, Thermia, and others. We can verify exact compatibility when you contact us — usually only Modbus or another communication protocol support is needed.

Can I control the system from my phone?

Yes. The Termalis app (available on Google Play) lets you monitor and control your heat pump from anywhere. You can see temperatures, energy consumption, change modes (winter/summer/holiday), track electricity prices and COP efficiency. The app is available in Lithuanian and English.

3 Service & Maintenance

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

We recommend preventive service once a year — ideally before the heating season (September–October). This includes refrigerant check, heat exchanger cleaning, filter replacement, electrical connection inspection, control system diagnostics, and COP measurement. Regular service helps prevent expensive breakdowns and maintain optimal efficiency.

What should I do if my heat pump shows an error?

First, note the error code. Some errors are temporary and the system may recover automatically after some time. If the error persists or the system isn't working — contact us. The Termalis remote platform often allows us to diagnose the problem remotely, saving your time.

Do you provide emergency service?

Yes. In emergency situations (heat pump completely not working in winter), we aim to arrive within 24 hours. Emergency call-out costs an additional €50 (excl. VAT). Standard services are scheduled within 1–3 business days.

Which heat pump manufacturers do you service?

We service all major manufacturers' heat pumps: Bosch, Panasonic, Samsung, Viessmann, Vaillant, Nibe, Stiebel Eltron, CTC, Thermia, Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, Toshiba, and others. We also perform VRF system repair and diagnostics.

Can remote diagnostics replace physical service?

Remote diagnostics helps quickly identify many problems — error codes, parameter deviations, efficiency decreases. Some cases can be resolved remotely (e.g., reconfiguring settings). However, mechanical work (refrigerant top-up, parts replacement) still requires a physical visit.

4 Energy Savings

How much can you save with a heat pump?

A heat pump can reduce heating costs by 50–70% compared to a gas boiler and up to 80% compared to electric heating. With the Termalis AI control platform, which optimizes operation based on electricity prices and weather conditions, you can save an additional 20–30%.

How does a solar system integrate with a heat pump?

The Termalis platform automatically prioritizes energy generated by your solar panels. When solar panels produce a surplus, the system heats more intensively or stores hot water, maximizing the use of free energy. This reduces energy exports to the grid at low prices and increases energy independence.

What is a heating curve and why is it important?

A heating curve determines what water temperature the heat pump should supply at different outdoor temperatures. A correctly set curve ensures your home always has a comfortable temperature with minimal costs. The Termalis system automatically adjusts the heating curve based on actual building data.
